Wendy Jackson Hall
Wendy Jackson Hall, the co-creator of Wings of the Sea, passed away on November 14, 2005 from complications of lung cancer. She was 32. She is missed by everyone whose lives she touched.
A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, Wendy was an animator, a writer, and a teacher. She was particularly gifted at teaching children and her infectious teaching style made her a sought-after animation teacher in schools. In addition to teaching animation in public schools, she taught at media arts organizations and community colleges. She had been living with her husband on Bainbridge Island, Washington, where she was a primary organizer of the island’s Puppets on Parade, a great community event.
She was actively involved with many animation-related organizations including the Hollywood and Seattle chapters of ASIFA (the International Animated Film Society). In addition, she wrote for Animation World Magazine, Variety, and Wired, among other publications. She also served as a juror for the Ottawa International Animation Festival in 2000, the largest event of its kind in North America.
Her boundless and entrepreneurial energy served the Wings of the Sea project well, and her creative spirit remains with the project. Karen Lewis, a talented animator and artist, along with producer Rachel Price, will complete the project.
Wendy’s parents and husband have created a scholarship fund for animators in her name.
